Ragnarok yellow cedar, 36" diameter

This panel portrays the Viking myth of the apocalptic final battle between the gods and the giants, good and evil, involving all creation, in which virtually all life is destroyed.

In the middle of the panel is the wolf, Fenrir, killing the "allfather" Odin. Jormungand, the terrible Midgard snake kills Thor, son of Odin. There is much chaos through out creation, with the clashes between the forces of evil and good.In the end evil prevails, the sun is dark and there are no stars. The earth sinks into the sea.

But out of this chaos an Eagle flies bringing a new age. The sun and stars return, crops grow and ripen in the fields, and humanity returns. Foremost is Balder, inside the Eagle, who is the son of Odin, having returned from the land of the dead. But evil still lurks, as seen in the two snakes, relief carved, on the lower rim of the panel.
